An accomplished physician now serving in greater Atlanta, Dr. Robert Crawford has directed medical affairs for Basis Medical since September of 2019. A skilled surgeon, Dr. Robert Crawford’s appointments include chair of the Quality Committee of the Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and co-chair of the International Relations Committee of the Society of Vascular Surgery.

Robert Crawford, MD, is also a respected clinical researcher who has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and delivered presentations at dozens of professional gatherings. His research work dates back to his days as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley. While working toward his bachelor of arts in molecular and cell biology, he contributed to studies of the structural biology of 7-transmembrane receptors. He has held assistant or associate professorships at such institutions as the University of Maryland and Emory University.

Dr. Crawford’s longstanding interests include the establishment of vascular acute-care surgery as a new area of specialization. This specialty will attend exclusively to emergency and urgent care patients, leaving other vascular surgeons free to perform elective procedures.
